Abe, the photog

Abe has discovered the digital camera. It's quite difficult to get a picture of him now, because if he sees the camera, he tries to grab it so he can take pictures.

We have many, many pictures of toys or other random objects - Abe's foot is in almost every picture.

I was impressed that he was able to take this one. It's a piece of sidewalk chalk. One of Abe's favorite foods.

He also takes close-up artistic shots of the family.

Clothes are my enemy

Abe hates to wear clothes at home - so this is what he wears all day. When we go out he wears clothes and keeps them on, but the second we get home he takes them off. It's actually gotten to the point where he doesn't even wait until we get in the house. He starts to take them off in the car as soon has he is unbuckled from his car seat.

Growing up is hard to do.

Poor Abe! Everyone says he is tall for his age. Well it has happened three times now, that Abe has had "growing pains" in his legs at night. I hear him whispering, "Ow, ow, ow" in his sleep and he touches and wiggles his legs. Finally the pain wakes him up and I do all I can to take it away, but not fast enough.

Bloody Nose!

This morning I was sleeping with Abe. David woke me to ask if Abe was bleeding. I turned over to see Abe's face and hands *covered* with dried blood. At first I was not sure where it was coming from because it was all around/in his mouth and smeared up the side of his face. After I wiped him down I saw it was his nose because it was still bleeding. He stayed in bed watching TV for several hours after he woke up. I'm not sure why that happened. He is not a nose picker and did not get hit in the nose recently. He has had a slight cold the last few days, but nothing serious.

He laughs - He throws up. He cries - He throws up.

He does a little dance with food in his mouth and guess what happens. Ditto with coughing.
He is like a time bomb. The last time he threw up this often I traced it back to a sensitivity to milk. I cut back on his milk and it seemed to help. Recently, he has become so demanding about having milk all the time so it seems there is a connection. He examines his drink before taking a sip to make sure he isn't being tricked into drinking juice or water. If only there were such a thing as white food coloring.

What Do?

I've decided that is Abe's first sentence. Abe has a limited vocabulary, consisting of mostly animal names and 'train'. But around December, he started asking, "What do?" when someone was interacting with him. I'm not exactly sure what he means by that question, but I always make up an answer.

Notes about what Abe can do

Abe is growing up so fast! He is running everywhere now and hardly ever still. Everyone says what a nice smile he has. He eats anything and everything. All kinds of food, but he also enjoys non-food items. The boys and I were joking that his favorite things to eat are mud, cat food and toilet water. A few days ago while playing in the sand, Abe started shoveling sand in his mouth and cried because I took him out to wash up. Abe does not say any words yet, but sometimes his babbling sounds like words. "This, this" (while pointing at things) and I think he can say "Ada" too. He had a stage a few weeks ago where he threw everything in the trashcan. I think he enjoyed lifting the lid and throwing things in. I replaced the trashcan with the laundry basket but Abe was not fooled.

Adventures in diaper rash

After 14 months Abe got his first diaper rash. It was so sad because he could not even sit down without crying. Finally we stuck a pillow in his vibrating chair, propped his feet up with pillows and put a movie on for him. I'm happy to report that he's ok now!
